Globalization is testing our collective talent. If we want to build a more sustainable world for future generations, we have to work together. Challenges of our day are to transcend geography, religion, gender, in order to work together on world's most pressing challenges like climate change and the future of energy, poverty, health, education, terrorism. Solving global issues requires innovation, research & development, increased application of science & technology in a global context.
Here comes Global Challenge Award in picture.
The Global Challenge Award (GCA) is an innovative non-profit education program founded in 2005 to prepare high-school students to thrive in the 21st century and give them the tools and confidence to solve the planet’s most pressing problems.
By forming international teams of high school students to solve global problems, students learn that the future belongs to those with skills in science, technology, engineering, math, systems thinking, and perhaps most importantly, in global collaboration and communication. But technical and communication skills are not enough. The Global Challenge succeeds because it brings young people together to form relationships built on solving common problems, and it empowers young people to believe that they can make a difference not only on their own lives and national economies but on the planet itself.
Education is crucial to turn globalization into a more inclusive process. In the age of the information society and the knowledge economy, education is the key to social progress. We believe that high-school students in the age group of 14 to 17, comprise a vibrant group, with high potential to contribute to sustainable development in coming years & generations. This group has the intellect, capacity and eagerness for radical thinking and they are fast learners. They are growing in a technology savvy environment and can make best use of emerging technologies to solve global issues. We need to invest in this group in order to enhance their skills in the areas of science, technology, participatory learning, collaboration, working in virtual teams that transcend various boundaries. In this group, we also need to help create awareness, develop a sense of ownership, responsibility and commitment towards solving global issues. Dedicating resources to these cause, will in turn enable sustainable development worldwide and help combat global issues.
In 2005, Craig Deluca of The Arno Group, established an innovative nonprofit, Global Challenge Award, with a mission to "Provide Students the Tools and Confidence to Solve Global Problems Together." The nonprofit was founded in close collaboration with Domenico Grasso of University of Vermont, College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. Having an extensive experience of serving on many corporate and nonprofit boards of directors and Advisory boards including Executive Perspectives Inc , Technology Strategies Inc, Intercon Systems Inc, Intervision Inc. He firmly believes that it is not going to happen naturally so thought about how we can change the education system, what could we do, and what could be the goals. And that’s the starting phase of innovative program GCA.

Join the GO-350 Contest!
We invite you to participate in a gaming competition called GO-350 (Games Olympiad 350). This December, world leaders will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. Win our competition and you too can be part of this exciting event! You can participate in this round to be held between August and November 2009 if you are between 13 and 18 years and live at one of Pune, India, state of Vermont USA, City of Chicago, USA or Israel.
The number 350--as in parts per million, is the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. Our contest seeks to “Educate and Engage Youth to Take Action, be Change Agents and Save the World on their Way to College”.
At each individual site mentioned above, the competition will have 3 rounds with rewards for all participants and special rewards for winners of each round. First round involves playing 5 computer games on climate change developed by Global Challenge Award and its partner Neeti Solutions. Top scorers move to round 2 where you learn about games design and are required to submit an original idea of yours on a climate change game. Youth with top ideas move to round 3 where you play a game, which assists you in creating your own presentation of the facts, warning signs and impacts of Climate Change. You then make a case in front of a panel of judges why your presentation should win and you might just find yourself in Copenhagen this December!
